FAQ - Criminal Defense

Frequently Asked Questions in Criminal Defense

1. I have been contacted by the police or other law enforcement agency. What should I do?

A: It is critical that you call a defense attorney without delay. You may think you are helping yourself by making statements, explaining yourself, and meeting with people, but such a course of action is extremely dangerous. You need to consult with an experienced attorney who can advise you on the right course of action at the earliest stages of a legal problem.

2. How is Phillips & Thomas LLC different from other defense attorneys?

A: Unlike many places, you actually meet with an experienced defense attorney with extensive trial experience.

You are not passed off to some secretary or paralegal. Each of our attorneys has more than 10 years experience in the field of criminal defense. At every stage of the representation, you will be able to meet with your attorney in his office well before your court dates. You also can call us as often as you feel is necessary, at all stages of your representation. You don’t just have someone show up at your court date with no knowledge of what is happening.

We have always believed that a direct, involved, and hands-on approach to defense work is the best.

We have handled all types of cases: from simple traffic infractions, up to high level felonies at the state and federal level, such as sex offense cases, drug cases, juvenile cases, violent offenses, DWI and DUI cases, domestic battery, homicides, and property crimes. We also handle post-conviction matters, such as probation violations, diversion revocations, parole violations, motions to set aside convictions, appeals, and other matters. We also deal extensively with applications at the state and federal level for executive clemency, pardons, and expungement.

3. What will it cost for you to represent me?

A: There is no “one size fits all” solution to legal issues. We offer a free consultation. The reason for this is that each case is unique. At the meeting, we will quote you a price to handle your case. The fees are true flat fees, with no surprises. There is no hourly billing, teaser rates, or other surprises.
